Kyle Buchanan announced as 2019 Lakers’ MVP

The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers have announced the recipients of their 2019 Team Awards. Every individual honoured was an integral part of the Lakers’ 2019 Mann Cup win in Victoria.

Kyle Buchanan was named the team’s MVP. He also won the award in 2017 and was the team’s top scorer in 2018. “Bucky” had 17 goals and 52 assists for 69 points in 17 games last season and was one of the top loose-ball men on the floor. He finished second in Mann Cup scoring with six goals and 12 assists in five games.

“To be recognized with this award amongst this group is truly an honour,” Buchanan said. “I think many guys could win this each season. We have a locker room full of guys who are not only great players, but unreal teammates. I am very thankful to be able to play for this amazing organization and I know I speak for the group when I say we can’t wait to get back together to defend the Mann Cup at the Memorial Centre in 2021.”

General manager Paul Day said Buchanan has become the heart and soul of the Lakers.

“He’s such a great player. We got him three years ago in a trade and we’ve won three Mann Cups with him,” Day stated.

Captain Robert Hope was once again named the team’s Most Dedicated player.

“It is an honour to be named most dedicated with such an amazing team and so many great players,” stated Hope. “We have so many players that make personal sacrifices for the betterment of the team and that’s what leads to team success.”

The MSL cancelled their 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Mann Cup was also cancelled, and when it returns in 2021, will be hosted by the winner of the MSL.
